Hey there.  Going to SPX 2011 this weekend?  Expect to see a table(D2) with the old Sundays banner flying with some old and new stuff for sale or perusal. Here is the rundown:

Melissa Mendes:

Melissa is debuting her freshly printed, 100+ page Xeric book, Freddy Stories at SPX. This is a treat. If you are familiar with Melissa’s previous Freddy comics, this book has all those stories plus like 40 more pages of new comics. Get one for the kid in you or in your life.

Melissa will also be doing a reading at Atomic Books in Baltimore on Friday before SPX with a ton of other great cartoonists. We recommend going to this event. It is always fun and Atomic always comes through with the free drinky-poos…if you are into that sort of thing.

 Joseph Lambert:

Our pal Joe will be with us this weekend as well as hanging out with the Secret Acres folks where you can get Joe’s amazing I Will Bite You.
IWBY!AOScover

This book is causing a ruckus and getting nominated like 2 times for Ignatz awards(given away this very weekend). Come say hi to Joe. He always has some superfresh prints and mini comics for sale. We hope Joe gets a brick or two this weekend. That would be a well-deserved perk for this hard working man.

Oh and we almost forgot that Joe is in the new and last Mome available at the Fantagraphics table.

Sean Ford:

The always reliable Sean Ford will be in attendance with copies of Only Skin his super awesome mystery-ghost-murder-comedy comic book series. Maybe he’ll have a special print for sale as well. Maybe something like this?
Ghostwatcher

Sean is plugging away at finishing up Only Skin for its publication next year as one book by Secret Acres. Things are happening!

Chuck Forsman:

Let it be known that I am now writing about myself. I will have The Ground is Soft and a new mini comic called The End of the Fucking World for sale. This new comic will be cheep and isn’t for kids.

I am also in Mome 22 and will be signing at the Fantagraphics booth, 11am to noon on Saturday and noon to 1 on Sunday. Come by and talk to me because I expect I will be bored.

Unfortunately, Alex Kim won’t be with us this weekend. We’ll be missing some much needed laughs due to his absence. But we have it on good authority that AK is working on something big. SOMETHING BIG.
Sundays cover

And of course we will have copies of Sundays 2 and the latest, Sundays Forever Changes. We hear that Warren Craghead may be wandering around the show this weekend. Maybe he’ll draw in your copy of Sundays Forever Changes for you, you lucky duck.

Okay okay. Have a good weekend. I hope your basement isn’t flooded.

Sundays 2 an 3 are now available to order on the OILY BOUTIQUE.

Sundays 2 will be back at SPX this weekend at table G1.  Come visit!

The Sundays Table at Heroes Con, earlier this summer

It’s been an exciting time for many of our esteemed Sundays editors and contributors and while they would never toot their own horns, I’m more than happy to be the tootiest horn in the land on their behalf.  So here’s a peak at what Sundays folks will have at the Sundays table and other places throughout the show this weekend:

A page from Snake Oil #2, Git it, Pretty Kitty!

First up, it’s a big weekend for editor Chuck Forsman, he was nominated for three Ignatz Awards for his hilarious, dark comic series Snake Oil – Chuck will be at the table signing copies of Snake Oil and negotiating a bailout for Bank of America.  Come on by to check out Snake Oil issues 1 and 2 and his story in Sundays 2, if you haven’t already.
Wall City, Youll Get Caught Up In It!

Next, it’s also a big weekend for editor/screen-printer extraordinaire Alex Kim.  Alex will have his freshly printed, Xeric-funded graphic novel Wall City available.  He’ll also have a hilarious, beautiful new Eagle Fight Squad story – it’s a full-color comic that folds out to deluxe poster size.  Also, check out the first Eagle Fight Squad stories in Sundays 2.

Editor and cover artist/designer of Sundays 2, Joe Lambert, is planning to have a top secret new mini along with his ever-growing collection of amazing minis (if you haven’t seen the cavemen one yet, you lose, dear reader); and if you’re on the ball, you can pick up a copy of Best American Comics 2008 beforehand (I don’t think Houghton Mifflin will be at SPX).  If you’re nice, you can get Joe to sign his beautiful endpapers for the book or his mini Turtle Keep It Steady that was chosen for inclusion in the collection.

Sundays editor Bryan Stone will not be at the show, but his work will be there in the form of Bash! Magazine.  Bryan has done an Onion Head story in each of the first three issues of the magazine, alongside the likes of Theo Ellsworth and Eamon Espey.  And you can check out the very first Onion Head story in Sundays 2.

Pizza Wizard 2, by Sam Gas Can

Sundays 2 contributor Sam Gaskin will have a new issue of Pizza Wizard at the show, as well as his first collection Fatal Faux Pas – those books will be over at the Secret Acres table, H5.  He’s also performing some live music at the crazy Atomic Books Anniversary party Friday night, October 3rd.  I think they’re calling it SPXplosion. You can, of course, also read his amazing strip in Sundays 2.

Monsters 3! Ken Dahl!

Monsters 3! Ken Dahl!

Sundays 2 contributor Ken Dahl will have a new issue of his highly regarded Monsters series, the third issue, which features a truly bitching AND disturbing cover.  He also has his new book Welcome to the Dahl House out this year from Microcosm, which if you haven’t tracked down yet, this weekend is the perfect opportunity.  Ken will also be on a book tour of the East Coast the next week or so, including stops at the Atomic Books SPXplosion party and SPX itself.  And if you missed his hilarious contribution to Sundays 2, omg, you can get it this weekend!

Screen print postah!

Screen print postah!

As for little old me, I’ll have my three issues of Only Skin and a brand new screen printed Only Skin poster that you can hang on your wall, just to let people know what you’re all about.

I know, I know, you’re asking – what if I could get one book that had awesome work from all these awesome cartoonists and more?  Well, dear reader… YOU CAN!  Sundays 2!  This weekend, table G1 at SPX, right by the entrance.  And of course, you STILL get a snappy screen-printed bag to carry home all your goodies in.

Wow.  That’s a lot, thanks for reading!  We hope to see you at the show.  It should be a good one.

Rob Clough, over at the wonderful Sequart.com site, has just reviewed SUNDAYS 2 along with a bevy of other CCS comics.  Read what he had to say here.

What’s that, pizza? You want to know how we do what we do here at Sundays 2?

Sundays-Cover-Time-(3)
Here is Alex Kim putting in about two hours printing each color of the cover. The Sundays 2 cover has four colors. The back cover has two.

Sundays-Cover-Time-(2)
You can see the first few on the drying rack here. At this point the first two colors are on.

S2-Creation-(11)
Sundays 2 was printed and bound at The Center for Cartoon Studies. Here we see Jeff Lok‘s beautiful pages coming out of the printer.

S2-Creation-(13)
Sundays 2 is 70 pages. We stapled the pages, and wrapped the back cover around the spine to hide the staples and then glued the back cover to a flap on the back (I’ll try to take more detailed photos next time so as to better explain the process).

S2-Creation-(10)
Then we trimmed the book using CCS’s hydraulic paper cutter. I think the final size ends up being 10.25″ by 12.25″

MoCCA-08-(19)

Hello friends.  Please come see us at MoCCA.  We will be sitting upstairs in the skylight ballroom.  Don’t forget to ride the antique elevator.  It’s worth the wait.  We will be near the CCS, One Percent Press, and IKJK tables.  We are very excited about the book.  We hope you come and look at it.  Until then,  here be the cover drawn by Joey Lambchops and hand-pulled by A Krim.
